About Hillary Marzec

Director and Chief Translator at The Finer Point

Hillary Marzec, a former university instructor of Writing, World Literature, and French, founded The Finer Point in 2007 in order to launch a career in which she would be working in multiple languages on a daily basis, with people from various cultures around the globe.

Hillary's advanced literary studies (Master's in Comparative Literature, Bachelor's in French), together with her years of teaching experience, have strengthened, refined, and sharpened not only her personal writing skills, but also her eye for editing others' writing.  Multilingual (English, French, German, Latin, Italian, and Spanish), she has taught classes in French and ESL, and has tutored in the U.S. and in Europe in subjects like Latin, German, and English.  Her interests stem largely from her passion for language: the history of English, linguistics, foreign languages, word etymologies, and literature.  She is fascinated by the meeting of cultures, in the exchange of ideas and impressions made possible by the translation of words.

In addition to more than 13 years professional translation experience, Hillary also has more than 15 years of professional English editing experience, with projects ranging from academic dissertations to business contracts to web content and design: the fundamentals of non-fictional writing remain constant, despite the varying content.  She has also been involved in a number of projects dealing with fictional literature, editing and providing substantive consultation for children's book manuscripts, poetry, short stories, and novels.
